Windows changes the UEFI variables (BootOrder)
Problem:
In some Windows installations, Windows automatically changes certain UEFI variables (e.g. BootOrder)
to what it considers “better” values.
In addition, UEFI variables that are believed to be unnecessary can be deleted.
In reality, however, these modified values interfere with the booting of the affected Windows installation.
This problem can occur in multi-boot systems or if Windows is not installed on the first hard drive.
Solution:
The Boot-US Service enables the automatic restoration
of UEFI variables to their original values. All you need to do is create a var file containing the
UEFI variables to be restored and specify this file in the Boot-US Service.
The var file can be created using Boot-US (GUI) via the menu command “UEFI / Save Variables...”.
After Windows starts, the Boot-US service launches and then restores the
UEFI variables in the background.
Note:
It appears that Windows only changes the UEFI variables if more than one boot option points to the “Windows Boot Manager”.
If Windows deletes a boot option, you can also directly add the corresponding file bootmgfw.efi to the boot manager Boot-US.
